March 21, 2019

It is true that Gail Weingast’s initial education pursuits in 1969 indicated that she might not have wanted a medical career at first. That’s when future Dr. Gail Weingast attended Jackson College, Tufts University, in Medford, Massachusettsto obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish. It must not have been long before she felt a calling to medicine, however, because she went to Boston University School of Medicine within a few years and officially became Dr. Gail Weingast MD in 1976.

Of course, as is the case for doctors, there were numerous internships, residencies and fellowships needed to complete her education, which she completed under the auspices of St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver, way back in 1984. Once her education was complete, Dr. Gail Weingast worked at several hospitals in Colorado and New York before landing at her current hospital, William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich,Connecticut, where she has served as a radiologist for more than two decades. At Backus, she is the Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging, while also leading their radiology department to become one of the best radiology departments in New England and beyond.
